If you’re a Capitec Bank customer, getting your statements is easier than ever thanks to their handy app.
In this guide, I’ll break down the process step-by-step so even if you’re not a tech whiz, you can get your bank statements in a flash.
Step-by-step guide to Get Your Bank Statement from the Capitec App
Step 1: Getting the Capitec App on Your Phone
Find Your App Store:
iPhone Users: Look for the blue icon with a white “A” on it. This is called the “App Store”.
Android Users: Look for the icon with a colourful play button triangle. This is the “Google Play Store”.
Search for “Capitec Bank”:
Tap the search bar at the top of the screen and type in “Capitec Bank”. The official Capitec app should be the first thing that pops up.
It’ll have a red icon with the Capitec Bank logo.
Download and Install:
Tap the “Download” or “Install” button next to the Capitec Bank app. It might take a few minutes.
Step 2: Setting Up (Activating) the Capitec App
Open the App: Once it’s downloaded, find the Capitec app icon on your phone and tap it.
Activation Options: You have two choices:
Option 1: Branch Visit
This is the simplest if you’re not very comfortable with technology. A friendly person at the Capitec branch will help you get set up.
Option 2: Do it Yourself on the App
- The app will ask you to take a selfie (a photo of your face) and a photo of your ID document.
- These get sent to Capitec to confirm who you are.
- You can also send these photos to Capitec via WhatsApp if you prefer.
Important! Email Address: If you haven’t given Capitec your email address before, they’ll ask for it now.
This is how they’ll send you your bank statement.
Step 3: Logging in to See Your Account
- Open the App Again: After you’ve activated it, find the app on your phone and open it.
- Your Remote PIN: This is like a secret password for your banking app. If you don’t have one, Capitec would have helped you set it up when you activated the app.
- Biometrics (Optional): If your phone is fancy and can scan your fingerprint or face, you might be able to use those to log in instead of your PIN – this is up to you!
- Seeing Your Account Dashboard: Once you’ve logged in, you’ll see a screen with your account balance and other stuff. If you have more than one Capitec account, pick the one you need a statement for.
Step 4: Getting Your Bank Statement
- Find the Three Dots: At the top right of the screen with your account information, you’ll see three dots in a vertical line. Tap these.
- Tap “Email Statement”: This should be an option on the menu that pops up.
- Pick Your Dates:
- The app will ask when you want your statement to start and end.
- If you want a three-month statement, the ‘start date’ should be three months before today.
- Enter Your Email Address: Double-check you’ve typed it correctly!
- Hit Send: Look for a “Send” or “Confirm” button and tap that.
Step 5: Yay! You Have Your Statement
Check Your Email: Go into the email app on your phone.
Look for an Email from Capitec: The subject line will probably say something like “Bank Statement”.
Download the Attachment: The email will have a PDF file attached; that’s your statement.
Tap it to download it.
You’re in Control Now: You can save this copy to your phone or even print it out if you have a printer.
